'Mechanical difficulties' lead to garbage drop-off delays at Elysian Fields transfer station

Long waits were in store Wednesday for New Orleans residents who brought their household garbage to the city's temporary drop-off site on Elysian Fields Avenue. A city spokesperson confirmed "mechanical difficulties" were behind the delay.

The site at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. has accepted household waste since Hurricane Ida caused delays in curbside pickup from the city's contractors, primarily Metro Service Group. Some customers of Metro, which serves portions of the city north and east of downtown, say their garbage hasn't picked up since before the hurricane on Aug. 29.
