A meeting was held with New Orleans East business owners Tuesday night to address growing concerns about crime.

Eric Grissom, chairman for Railroad Company in New Orleans East, said he has seen crime firsthand.

"I've had workers shot at just nine days ago," Grissom said. "I've had to hit the ground myself about three different times. I've seen bullets ricochet off train parts."

Grissom said he has been complaining about crime for a long time. This was his and many other business owners' chance to speak with city leaders about the issue.

"I have worked in this area for 20 years. It does not have to be this way," Grissom said.

Business owners told New Orleans Councilman Oliver Thomas about their personal experiences dealing with things like illegal dumping, drag racing, prostitution, and constant shootings near their businesses.
