NEW ORLEANS —
New Orleans faith leaders are calling for a city-wide "cease fire" on Good Friday after a spike in violent crime.
Pastor Fred Luter, Bishop J.D. Wiley Taylor and Bishop Tom Watson spoke to the community and addressed crime, murders, violence, and general unrest.
The faith leaders spoke at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans East.
The faith leaders said they are challenging all people of faith to make Good Friday a day of fasting and a day for prayer.
“This approach is nothing new for Christians, but what is different is to recommend that the entire city partake in this strategy as a sign of unity to combat crime and violence in our community," said Watson in an issued statement.
