It wasn't a Sunday for the New Orleans Saints' win column. But for tailgaters a few blocks from the newly minted Caesars Superdome, the day still had its victories.
The tailgaters, part of a group called #TailgateTogether, set up along Perdido Street for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic started. They set up two TVs, speakers, a DJ booth and a grill. And they accepted funds to help Hurricane Ida's survivors.
"This is New Orleans, and we party," tailgater Ryne Hancock said. "But we also want to help the people."
Allen Keller, who spent eight years working with FEMA, started #TailgateTogether about eight years ago in a push to feed New Orleans' homeless population. He says with each tailgate, his team feeds an average of 100 people.
